Bringing Music Therapy to Bay Area Veterans

MusicianCorps is proud to announce a new partnership with the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center (SFVAMC) to bring a MusicianCorps Fellow to the VA's Community Living Center (CLC), serving veterans with ongoing music therapy interventions. As a Board Certified Music Therapist, the MC Fellow will provide ongoing service on site at the CLC four days a week. The MC Fellow will be responsible for assessing the therapeutic needs of the center's residents and administering group and individual interventions that emphasize independent living, socialization, and physiological functioning.
The Community Living Center is an integral component of the services the SFVAMC provides to Bay Area veterans. A residential center, the CLC provides long-term care, short-term rehabilitation therapy, respite care, and palliative care. MusicianCorps looks forward to collaborating with treatment team members at the CLC to contribute to their comprehensive therapy and care program.
This new partnership represents an exciting step forward for MusicianCorps in its deepening commitment to serving our nation's veterans through the power of music. On several occasions, MusicianCorps has worked with the VA Medical Centers in nearby Palo Alto and Menlo Park, bringing music therapy and music-making opportunities to hospitalized residents through daylong workshops and other events. The partnership with SFVAMC will be the first time MusicianCorps has provided ongoing, full-time service to veterans. The arrangement offers the Center for Music National Service a promising opportunity to evaluate the impact of music-based interventions on post-traumatic stress disorder and other needs common among veterans.
