MNS Awarded AmeriCorps Grant
The Center for Music National Service (MNS) is excited to announce its expanded partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) through a recently awarded AmeriCorps Planning Grant. The award will be used to plan for national expansion of the MusicianCorps program.
MNS currently administers a successful AmeriCorps*VISTA program in partnership with CNCS. The MNS Artist Entrepreneur program attracts graduate level musicians with college degrees from all over the country to serve low-income populations for 1-2 years. As part of the emerging nonprofit leadership program, MNS Artist Entrepreneurs receive ongoing professional development while strengthening community partnerships and programs, recruiting and managing volunteers, documenting and evaluating direct service activities, and engaging in other capacity building activities.
MNS Artist Entrepreneurs come from diverse backgrounds with degrees in a wide range of subjects, from Arts Administration to Ethnomusicology. “As a musician and mentor, I have always believed in the mission of MNS,” says Clare Marash, “as a MNS Artist Entrepreneur I get to serve that mission daily. In my time here, I have developed critical skills and exponentially deepened my impact in my community.” Meet the rest of the MNS Artist Entrepreneurs here.
As part of the national planning process, MNS will be considering a number of opportunities and partnerships to implement a multistate MusicianCorps program during the 2012-2013 school year. Stay tuned!
