MusicianCorps and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Bring a Day of Music to Young Patients

On October 1st, MNS and the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital co-hosted a “Music Day,” an event to bring the hospital community together through music. MC Fellows, visiting musicians, hospital staff, patients and their families spent the afternoon performing, playing in drum circles, exploring new instruments in the “instrumental petting zoo” and rocking out at jam sessions.

All day, the halls of the hospital were filled with the sounds of patients and families exploring the world of music. “Music Day” organizer and MC Fellow Meagan Hughes summed it up nicely when she said, “on this day, music helped to build new relationships and create community.” (read more from her blog here)
The day kicked off with a patient showcase and concluded with a grand finale jam session, including guitars, shakers and a full drum circle. Throughout the day, visiting musicians Dan Fabricant, Rupa and the April Fishes and DRUMMM traveled the hospital to share their talents in waiting rooms, the outpatient clinic and at the bedside of enthusiastic youth.
