Making a commitment to expand MusicianCorps to 3-5 cities by Fall 2012, The Center for Music National Service took a bold step forward as a participant at the recent CGI America meeting. MusicianCorps, MNS's flagship program, has served over 5,400 youth in just over two years of programming at public schools, youth centers, hospitals, and other high-need settings. With the expansion commitment, MusicianCorps seeks to bring quality music instruction, mentoring and service learning to an additional 5,000 youth per year, while engaging thousands more in music service days, performances and other community events. The CGI commitment helps bolster MNS's expansion planning with AmeriCorps.

The meeting, held June 29-30 in Chicago, was the first ever CGI America gathering. Clinton Global Initiative, started by former President Clinton in 2005, annually brings together leaders from all sectors of society to address global challenges and build partnerships. Recognizing growing domestic challenges, President Clinton launched CGI America to focus exclusively on problems at home. MNS was honored to participate in the forum's Service Corps working group, charged with producing new ideas for the role of national and community service in America.

The Center for Music National Service looks forward to developing new partnerships and working with new communities over the next year to fulfill its commitment with CGI. For more information please click here.
